Sibbald News: Spring activity picks up around the district
By Lee Switzer
It has been fairly busy around these parts lately, so I apologize in advance if some of my news is slightly dated.
Caelan Dietrich, son of Kris and Marianne Dietrich and grandson of Don and Dianne Ball, was part of a group of university students invited to Italy to work at the Olympics. He was part of the Olympic Broadcasting Network as a crew assistant and a member of the Olympic Broadcast training program. He was stationed at the curling venue for the three-week duration of the Olympics. The Dietrichs live in Wilmore, Ky., where Kris is a professor at the university there.
Congratulations to Winston Smith and the Oyen Bees hockey team on winning the Tier 1 U11 league banner. Well done, Winston!
April Hughes and Norman Molzan were out to Starwood, B.C., recently to visit April’s brother, Calvin Hughes. While in B.C., they saw Calvin’s new home in Kimberley. They enjoyed a mini holiday with family and beautiful scenery.
Phantom Valley Farms and Little E Holdings were fairly busy places as they each held machinery auctions at their farms last week. Family, friends and community members celebrated years of passion, dedication and hard work as these operations are slowing down.
Janet and Matt, Roxie and Cindy were out at our place last week, as well as our daughters, Charley and Paige, and their families, supporting and sharing in these milestone moments. Everyone enjoyed seeing all the neighbours, and there was lots of visiting.
I see the “girls” are in the calving pen south of our place. Ranchers will soon be quite busy, and less rested, as they swing into calving season. A few critters have made an early appearance already. I hope all goes well during this time.
Take care, everyone. Enjoy the longer days and warmer sunshine. Spring truly feels in the air.
