Alberta Sovereignty Meeting
More than 80 people attended an Alberta Sovereignty meeting held March 3 at the Oyen Seniors Rec Centre. Guest speakers Kathy Flett, Chris Scott and Sheane Meikle shared perspectives on Alberta’s history, discussed their views on sovereignty and independence, and answered questions from attendees.
Speakers encouraged residents to engage in respectful dialogue, conduct their own research, and participate in the democratic process by voting and staying involved in public affairs.
The Alberta Sovereignty within a United Canada Act has been described as a legislative tool intended to allow the province to challenge federal laws or policies considered harmful to Alberta’s interests, particularly in areas such as natural resources, gun control and agriculture.
A provincial referendum is scheduled for October 19, 2026, where Albertans will vote on questions related to immigration and constitutional reform.
Ooopsie
I would like to offer my apologies for a typing mishap in last week’s Letter to the Editor submission. The sentence should have read A $20,000 matching grant from the Alberta government was approved. (Not $23,000 as reported).
