998 tickets issued over the holidays
From Dec. 24-31, 2025, the Alberta RCMP was busy conducting enhanced traffic safety enforcement throughout the province, resulting in 998 tickets being issued.
Of the 998 tickets issued, 242 were for speeding, 31 for distracted driving and 21 for seatbelt infractions.
As well, 121 drivers were removed from the roads for being impaired due to drugs and/or alcohol, including 80 Immediate Roadside Sanction (IRS) FAILs and 23 IRS WARNs.
Unfortunately, due to road-related incidents, there were 99 non-fatal injury collisions and six fatal collisions, resulting in seven fatalities.
“We are never happy to report fatal motor vehicle collisions,” says Sgt. Darrin Turnbull, Alberta RCMP Traffic. “Everyone should have been able to make it home safely for the holidays. I encourage everyone to look out for each other on the roads. If you suspect an impaired driver, call 911 immediately.”
