Lillian Barbara Kulbergs
1933 – 2026
Lillian Barbara Kulbergs of Oyen, Alberta, passed away at the Rimbey Hospital on February 6, 2026, at the age of 92.
Lillian was born in a log house on the Rhodes/Torgerson family farm 5 miles east of Caroline, Alberta. She loved to help with the farming and would help drive teams of horses in the fields with whatever equipment was needed; except for the rack, as her father felt it was too dangerous. She attended school at a one room schoolhouse that was 3 miles from the farm; The Shiloh School. She often rode horseback to get to school. Shiloh School is still standing, and Lillian was able to revisit it in 2025. She was very happy for the chance to relive her good memories. Later she married in 1961, to Rolands Kulbergs and together they moved to Oyen, Alberta where Lillian lived until 2024. She then moved up to the Red Deer area to be closer to her daughters, due to her health.
Lillian was a bookkeeper for a number of years when she lived in Oyen, and eventually used that experience to open her own store. It was a craft store, with textiles, yarn, zippers, buttons, and many other things. She enjoyed running her store, but her favourite part of Oyen was always the people. Being able to spend time with quality people meant the world to her. She had a huge garden, and naturally loved spending time tending it and canning whatever she could. She also loved to sew, knit, crochet, and cross stitch, but her sewing always stood out as particularly beautiful. She was regarded in Oyen for helping with mending clothes. If not gardening or crafting, you could often find her with a book, enjoying quiet time, or with animals. She loved animals, always having a cat or two handy. She raised and trained horses for a number of years. Nothing formal, but it was enough to get them to answer yes or no, count to three, and she was able to stand on their backs and have them rear like Roy Roger’s Horse. She was able to learn all kinds of stunts and tricks, and spent hours at a time at it. She also loved to pull pranks on people, which would leave her grinning and giggling for hours, with a twinkle in her eyes.
She will be very much missed and dearly loved.
Lillian will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Wanda Ezeard, Brenda Nielsen, Terisha Aaltonen, and Roxi Smith; grandchildren Migueal Pixley, Andrea Icey Pixley-Simard, Sherry Cusworth, Kelly Nielsen (Barbie), Michelle Sortland (Jay), Cynthia Klassen (Kelly), and Karina Aaltonen; great-grandchildren Isaiah Migueal Pixley, Kalvin Cusworth, Keirra Cusworth, Madelyn Francis (Grayden), Sofia Nielsen, Bridgette Nielsen, Camille Nielsen, Jory Sortland, Austin Sortland, Katrina Keil, Tyson Klassen, Colleen Patel (Jinay), William Klassen, Daniel Klassen, Dalaina Aaltonen, Hiekkie Aaltonen, and Gibbs Aaltonen; and by her great-great-grandchildren Kaeden Price, Kristian Sanzana, Charlie Brassard, and Cecilla Brassard. She was predeceased by her Husband Rolands Kulbergs and by her Son Kerry Kulbergs
