St. Patrick’s Day decor brightens week at Oyen Lodge

By Dianne Spath, Oyen Lodge Recreation Director

Hello everyone. Another week has gone by, and there was a bit of moisture again. It’s always nice to see the sunshine after a few gloomy days. Hope everyone has gotten used to the time change. It usually takes a couple of days. Lots of green décor has been put up in the Lodge for St. Patrick’s Day, which is just around the corner.

Monday morning started with exercises, followed by a one-on-one game of Scrabble. In the afternoon, the residents enjoyed some bingo, and then some piano playing by Taylor Neilson.

Exercises started our Tuesday morning, followed by the regular bus run downtown for shopping and errands. Father Rodell led Catholic church at the Lodge at 10:30. In the afternoon, the residents socialized and enjoyed some refreshments and snacks for Pub Hour.

Wednesday morning, church was led by Catherine Holland, followed by a game of dominoes. In the afternoon, there were shuffleboard games.

Thursday, there were exercises and baking. In the afternoon, there was a one-on-one with a resident, and we made homemade potato and cheese perogies. The head cook will prepare them for a meal one day, and we can’t wait to taste them, as they looked delicious.

Friday morning, there were exercises and horse races. There was a tie for the winner that day between horse No. 1, Poncho, and horse No. 3, Lazy. Maximum Hearing was at the Lodge from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the family room. In the afternoon, there was card bingo and, in the evening, there was music by the Jorgensons.

Happy birthday to resident Tom Tracy on March 13. Happy birthday to staff member Maryann Salik on March 15. Make sure you wear green on St. Patrick’s Day so you don’t get pinched. Happy birthday to staff members Sherry Wilbur and Maria Mendoza on March 17.

There will be music by Luke from Calgary on March 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lodge. Everyone is welcome.

Have a great week, everyone.
