Spring will come and so will happiness

Hello everyone. Well, it looks like Mother Nature wants to keep us on our toes with all this weather, but this is Alberta and it can change in a minute.

The Popovichs entertained the Lodge last week.

The Oyen Lodge would like to welcome a new resident, Vernon Dodd.

Monday morning started with exercises, followed by a one-on-one Scrabble game. In the afternoon there was bingo. Madeline Nichols was the lucky winner on bingo with number I-29, and she doubled her winnings. In the evening the residents were entertained by the Popovichs. It is wonderful to have them at the Lodge every year when they are on their tour. It is because of the variety of donations received at the Lodge that it is possible to have different kinds of entertainment throughout the year. We thank you all and greatly appreciate it.

Exercises started the morning activity on Tuesday, followed by Catholic Church led by Father Rodell, and then the regular bus run downtown for shopping needs. In the afternoon the residents enjoyed the ice cream parlour, where floats, sundaes and banana splits were served.

Wednesday morning, ATB Financial was at the Lodge from 10 to 11 a.m. for the residents’ banking needs. Crossword games were played in the morning and shuffleboard games in the afternoon. Taylor Neilson was at the Lodge to play piano before the supper hour. In the evening the residents attended a fraud presentation at the Oyen Seniors Rec Center. Thanks to the local RCMP, ATB Financial and TD Bank for the wonderful presentation to help everyone stay informed and be aware of fraud and scams. Thanks to FCSS for helping arrange the evening, set up and supply the refreshments.

Thursday morning started with exercises, followed by dominoes. Delbert Pratt could not make it that day to say his poetry, but he will reschedule in May. It was a stormy winter day, so there was baking in the afternoon.

Friday started with exercises, followed by horse races. Three horses tied for first place: No. 2 Mariah, No. 5 Silver and No. 6 Topsy. In the afternoon there was the regular monthly birthday bash. Angel food cake with a light creamy topping was served along with coffee and tea. In the evening there was music by the Jorgensons.

Happy birthday to Barb Stober on April 17.

Have a great week everyone.
