Sibbald News: 4-H Season Wraps Up for Local Families

By Lee Switzer

Recent rains and cooler temperatures have left the countryside lush and green. Ranchers are smiling as pastures grow thick and tall, while crops are germinating well across the area.

Perennials and flower beds are also thriving, with peonies expected to burst into bloom this week.

Beef carcass results are in, with Brianna Lyster earning Grand Champion Carcass honours. Coleman Norris won the Rate of Gain award, while his sister, Camrie Norris, captured the Live Evaluation title. Congratulations to all three competitors.

Sincere sympathy and condolences are extended to the Woods families following the recent passing of Robin Woods. Throughout his long career in Oyen, Robin assisted countless local residents with their hardware needs. He was known for his helpful nature, warm smile and genuine interest in those he served.

Local 4-H families wrapped up another successful project year this past weekend. The Female Achievement Day was held June 12 at the Hanna Arena, where members presented their yearling heifer and herd projects. The 2026 Market Steer Show and Sale followed on June 13. The annual event gives members the opportunity to showcase and compete with their projects, submit record books and sell their market cattle.

Families from the Sibbald area participating in the show and sale included the Lyster, Norris, Smith and Woods families.

A final reminder that the Sibbald Quilt Show will be held June 26 and 27 at the Sibbald Hall. Organizers have been busy decorating the hall with handmade quilts. A cold lunch and supper will be available, along with bucket draws and vendors. Everyone is invited to attend.
