Sibbald Community News: Back in the swing of things

By Lee Switzer

By now, beloved Christmas decorations and ornaments are packed away, awaiting another Advent season. Families and friends gathered, visited, shared delicious foods, played, and prayed together. What a joyous Christmas season it was! The first Oyen Echo of the new year was filled with such positive, kind messages—it was a delight to read from cover to cover.

I’ve never been a New Year’s resolution type of person. Ask my former students—my standby resolution was to clean the junk drawer in the kitchen. In 2026, I am resolving to show more patience and kindness, as our world certainly needs that.

School is back in action, and local hockey players and dance students are back in the swing of things too.

On Thursday, January 15, there will be a quick meeting and work bee at the hall. An easy hotdog supper will start us off at 5:30. The meeting will only have a few items to cover, and then we will be taking apart 25 hall chairs and removing the upholstery staples from the backs and bottoms. Twenty-five chairs have already been reupholstered and need to be put back together. Please bring staple removal tools, flathead screwdrivers, and pliers. It’s not an easy job, and extra hands are always appreciated.

I will be writing the news for the next six months. If you have anything you would like included, please let me know. Take care, everyone.
