Oyen Lodge: Residents enjoy Family Day week, birthdays and regular activities at the Lodge

By Dianne Spath

Hello everyone.

The cold weather did show up as predicted, with the chilling wind, but we are back to some normal temperatures again, thank goodness. That cold spell made for a good week for no school and no buses running. We hope all the teachers and students had a great week off. The residents would like to thank the students who sent Valentine cards to the Lodge. It was a very nice gesture that put smiles on their faces.

Monday was the Family Day holiday, so there were no activities.

Tuesday morning started with exercises and the regular bus run downtown for shopping. Father Rodell led Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. In the afternoon, there was pub hour, where refreshments and snacks were served. Happy Birthday to Mae Mock on Feb. 17.

Wednesday started with church led by John, followed by crossword games. In the afternoon, there were shuffleboard games.

Exercises started our Thursday morning, followed by one-on-one baking with a resident. ATB Financial was at the Lodge from 10 to 11 a.m. for residents’ banking needs. In the afternoon, there was the regular monthly Birthday Bash, where spice cake with ice cream and coffee or tea were served.

Friday morning started with horse races. No. 5 horse, Silver, won the most races that day. In the afternoon, there were bingo games and, in the evening, music by the Jorgensons. Happy Birthday to Myrna Ferreras on Feb. 20. Feb. 21 is National Red Sock Day.

On March 5, Personal Touch Clothing & Avon will be at the Lodge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be a mini bake sale. On March 6, the World Day of Prayer will be held at the Lodge in the activity room at 10:30 a.m.

Have a great week, everyone, and enjoy the last week of February.

As February closes, reflect on growth and the transition toward spring. Key themes include anticipating warmer days, finding beauty in lingering winter and embracing personal renewal.
