OYEN LODGE: Remembering Spring!
By Dianne Spath
Oyen Lodge Recreation Director
Hello everyone. Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend.
The weather has been a little bit crazy, with a mixture of wind, snow, rain and beautiful sunshine all in one week. It’s sure nice to see the baby calves running around in the pastures. Hope to see some crocuses soon. They always seem to brighten things up this time of year. Looks like some people have started their yard cleanup already and are getting sheds organized for the summer.
Monday morning started with exercises, followed by a resident one-on-one Scrabble game. In the afternoon, the residents enjoyed an Easter tea, with pastel Easter-coloured cupcakes with French vanilla icing and a chocolate carrot-shaped candy on top. The residents also enjoyed some chocolate eggs with their tea and cupcake. The tables were decorated with pastel colours, chicks, bunnies and eggs.
Exercises started our Tuesday morning, and then it was the regular bus run downtown for shopping. In the afternoon, we had pub hour, where refreshments and snacks were served during the social hour. Tuesday was Green Shirt Day. The residents wore green in memory of the Humboldt hockey players.
Wednesday started with a Phase 10 card game, and in the afternoon the residents enjoyed some shuffleboard games. I also did a one-on-one with a resident making potato sauerkraut perogies.
Thursday there were no activities, as Dianne was away.
Friday started with exercises, followed by horse races. Horse No. 5, Silver, was the top winner that day. Maximum Hearing was at the Lodge from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the family room for anyone needing hearing services. In the afternoon there was card bingo, and in the evening there was music by the Jorgenson’s.
On April 15, there will be a presentation on protecting your finances against fraud and scammers at the Oyen Seniors Rec Centre at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Oyen RCMP, ATB Financial and Toronto-Dominion Bank will be at the presentation. FCSS and Oyen Lodge will provide refreshments and snacks for the evening.
On April 16, Delbert Pratt will be at the Lodge at 2 p.m. to do some poetry. Come join in on the entertainment.
On April 20, the clothing company Pieces by Sharon will be at the Lodge from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 20 is National Volunteer Recognition Day, and we thank all the volunteers in our communities for such a wonderful service.
Have a great week everyone, and we’ll see you at the Lodge!
