OYEN LODGE NEWS: National Hat Day

Warm weather, community spirit & National Hat Day at Oyen Lodge!

By Dianne Spath

Hello, Everyone. It sure was nice to have some warmer weather; unfortunately, it created some slippery ice in areas. All the snow is almost gone, and then there will be cold temperatures to come with some snow again. It was great to have some sunny days again.

National Hat Day!

Monday morning started with exercises, followed by a one-on-one Scrabble game. In the afternoon, there was bingo. On Tuesday, there were exercises and the regular bus run downtown for shopping. Father Rodell led Catholic Church at 10:30. In the afternoon, the residents enjoyed the ice cream parlor, featuring sundaes, floats, and banana splits. Wednesday morning started with Church led by Catherine Holland, followed by card games. Amanda and Bob, the dog, stopped in to visit some of the residents. There were no activities in the afternoon due to an evacuation at the Lodge because of a small fire in the new SL4 building, which is under construction. At 4:30, Taylor Neilson was at the Lodge to entertain the residents with piano music. Thursday morning, there were exercises, followed by Phase Ten card game. In the afternoon, there were shuffleboard games. Thursday Jan. 15th was “National Hat Day”, and the residents put on their favorite hats for the day. On Friday morning, there was horse races. #6 horse “Topsy” was the top winner that day. In the afternoon, there was card bingo. In the evening, there was music by Jorgenson’s.

Happy Birthday to Sophie Smith on January 16th. The Oyen Lodge residents and staff would like to extend their deepest sympathies and condolences to the Ella Conners family on the passing of Ella. Ella was a resident of the Lodge for many years before she moved away. Congratulations to Miranda and Owen Hausauer on the birth of a baby girl, Synnova, weighing 6 pounds.

The Oyen Lodge, Acadia Foundation would like to thank the Volunteer Fire Fighters for their quick response, hard work, and dedication on the day of the fire. Thanks to EMS, RCMP, and AHS for all their assistance also. Thanks to the community members of Oyen who came to check in to lend a helping hand if needed. Thank you to Subway and staff for suddenly having to make a lot of subs to feed the residents and staff. The Acadia Foundation appreciates everyone that helped in many ways to keep us safe; it is wonderful community support.

If anyone is missing a pair of black shoes from the New Brigden Hall from January 1st, they were accidentally brought back to the Lodge. You can call 403-664-3661 to claim.

Have a great week, everyone.
