Budget 2026 to be released on Feb. 26

Alberta’s government will table Budget 2026 on Thursday, Feb. 26, as the province faces declining resource revenues, ongoing trade tensions and continued global economic uncertainty.

Finance Minister Nate Horner said the budget will reflect a more challenging fiscal environment, driven by lower-than-expected oil prices and rising demand for government programs and services from a growing population.

The government says Budget 2026 will focus on disciplined decision-making aimed at managing fiscal pressures, protecting essential services and maintaining stability in provincial finances.

“Albertans know these times aren’t easy and the path ahead will require tough choices,” Horner said in a statement. “We are making responsible decisions now to protect the province’s financial future, stay focused on what matters and ensure Alberta remains strong for our children and grandchildren.”

The province said the budget will emphasize living within Alberta’s means while taking a deliberate approach to spending and revenue generation during a period of significant fiscal strain.

Public input played a role in shaping the budget, with the government citing extensive engagement with Albertans and stakeholders across the province. Between November 2025 and January 2026, more than 16,500 submissions were received through an online public survey.

In addition, more than 22,000 people participated in a telephone town hall on Dec. 9, 2025, where residents were able to ask questions and raise concerns directly with the finance minister.

The government noted it continues to follow Alberta’s legislated fiscal framework, which requires the provincial budget to be released before the end of February each year.
