Badlands Badgers seeking billet families for upcoming 2026-2027 season
Since 2010, the Badlands Badgers have proudly called the Oyen diamond home. Generations of local athletes have grown up on these fields — and today, the academy continues to bring high-level baseball and strong young role models into our community.
As the upcoming season approaches, the Badlands Badgers are looking for local families willing to open their homes as billet hosts.
Billeting means welcoming a student-athlete into your home for the summer season, typically from May through August. These young men are dedicated to their sport, focused on their education, and committed to being positive representatives both on and off the field. Players attend school, practise, volunteer locally, and compete throughout the summer — and they rely on local families to make Oyen their home away from home.
For some families, billeting is a way to stay connected to the game they love. For others, it’s an opportunity to provide mentorship and support to a young athlete chasing a dream. Many past billet families say the experience brought renewed energy into their homes and created friendships that lasted long after the season ended.
Families with younger children often find it especially rewarding, as billet players naturally become positive role models — helping with backyard catch, attending youth practices, and setting strong examples of discipline and teamwork.
The Badlands Badgers organization provides structure, clear expectations and ongoing support to billet families throughout the season. Hosts also receive discount cards, team apparel and recognition for the vital role they play in sustaining baseball in Oyen.
Quite simply, the program could not operate without local support.
If you have a spare bedroom and a heart for community sport, we invite you to consider becoming a billet family this season.
To learn more, please contact the Badlands Badgers through our Facebook page, reach out to Coach Nolan Rattai or Assistant Coach Zack Zinck (587-253-8809), or contact the office at South Central High School (403-664-3644).
Together, we can continue building something special at the diamond and ensure that baseball remains strong in Oyen for years to come.
