Walter Robert Boston

1936 – 2026

Walter Boston passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026 at the age of 89. He was born in Alsask, SK to Bert (Herbert) and Irene Boston and brother to Lucille. Walter’s early years were spent on the family homestead west of Sibbald, AB and then later in the town of Sibbald. In 1949 the family moved to Calgary, where Walter went to Western Canada High School.  He met Vivan Kristiansen through family friends and they were married July 20, 1956.

His working life was spent working in various aspects of construction, starting his career with Alberta Drafting. He later moved to Engineered Homes where he worked as a draftsperson, site superintendent, new home salesperson, and service manager. He continued his career with the various iterations of Alberta Housing Corporation as inspector, project estimator, and Director of Construction. Walter was known for his diplomacy, hard work ethic, honesty, and integrity.

Walter enjoyed cars, hunting, fishing, camping, and snowmobiling, especially with his family. He loved a good road trip and later traveling abroad. He was involved in scouting with his children and served as Group Chairman of 130th Scout Group for 13 years. He gladly accepted being pushed out of his comfort zone to support the scout group activities. He spent many hours during his children’s growing up years tirelessly driving them to various sporting venues for practices and games. He, along with his wife Vivian, rarely missed a game, even with four children playing soccer, softball, and hockey.

Walter is now reunited with his wife, Vivian, and is lovingly remembered by his children: Christine Bannard (Jeff), Rob (Joanne), Carolyn, Catherine, and Alan (Audrey); six grandchildren: Kris (Sheena), Trevor, Heather, Michael (Jessica), Tracy (Devin and great grandchildren Riley and Wesley), and Greg (Jonathan); and extended family and friends.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at Hope Lutheran Church (3527 Boulton Road NW) on May 1, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.  The service will be livestreamed on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@hopelutheranchurchyyc9976/streams
