Cal Neilson
July 11, 1962 – December 18, 2025
Calwyn (Cal) Dwayne Neilson was born in Empress, Alberta, on July 11, 1962, and passed away at his home in Acadia Valley on December 18, 2025. He was the youngest son of Chester and Kay Neilson.
Cal went to school in Acadia Valley and later took logistics training. He initially hauled gravel in Alberta and then moved into long-distance trucking, hauling mainly to the United States and knowing where every state was.
In 2007, Cal travelled to the Philippines and met Rachel Camay. They were married and had a baby girl, Calyn Katie (who now identifies as Kylan). In 2009, Rachel and Kylan moved to Canada. Currently, Rachel lives in Regina, and Kylan lives with Aunt Brenda in Calgary.
In recent years, after Cal stopped working, he spent a lot of time with his parents. His mother was Cal's supporting strength, and he was completely devastated when she passed away in 2021.
After that, Cal spent time with Kylan going to hockey games and quadding in Alberta and B.C. Frequently, he took Kylan's best friends, Alex and Daniel, along. The four had many fun times together.
Only a month ago, in November, Cal took a trip to Asia. He enjoyed visiting his Filipino family and friends. Rachel's mother wanted Cal to stay so she could take care of him—maybe he should have stayed.
Cal is survived by his daughter (son) Kylan, his estranged wife Rachel, his sister Brenda, and his brother Randy (Sharon), along with three nieces and one nephew.
A service will be held later in the spring.
