Summer arrives slowly in Oyen
By Dianne Spath
Oyen Lodge Recreation Director
Hello Everyone.
It’s great that we are still getting moisture. Everything looks so nice and green. There is a lot less watering these days, and it’s great for our farmers and ranchers. Sad to hear about the tornadoes and hailstorms in some parts of Alberta. Unfortunately, with this cool and windy weather, there hasn’t been too much activity in our gazebo yet.
On Monday morning there were exercises, followed by a one-on-one Scrabble game. In the afternoon there was bingo. Exercises and the regular bus run downtown for shopping started Tuesday morning. Father Rodell led Catholic Church at 10:30. In the afternoon there was pub hour with refreshments, snacks and socializing.
Wednesday morning there was church led by John, followed by crossword games. In the afternoon the Oyen Public School Band and Mr. and Mrs. Brad Broadhead were at the Lodge to entertain the residents with some great music. The students did a wonderful job with all their instruments and drums and were enjoyed by all. The first tune they played was O Canada, and it was great to see everyone stand for the national anthem.
Exercises started our Thursday morning, followed by some baking. In the afternoon there was a Father’s Day celebration. Chocolate creamy cupcakes and pub refreshments were served for the social hour. The men received scratch tickets as their Father’s Day gift.
Friday morning started with exercises followed by horse races. No. 5 horse Silver won the most races again, for the third week in a row. Maximum Hearing was at the Lodge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and they will be back on July 10. In the afternoon there was card bingo and, in the evening, music by the Jorgensons.
Happy Birthday to Isabelle Doupe on June 21. Happy Birthday to Denis Hilts and John Salvanera on June 23. Happy Birthday to Dianne Spath on June 24. The month of June is almost over and it doesn’t seem like we have had much summer weather yet, so hopefully July will bring some nice weather so we can enjoy the outdoors a lot more. Personal Touch Clothing will be at the Lodge on June 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Have a great week everyone, and we’ll see you at the Lodge!
