Spring renewal warms Oyen Lodge week

By Dianne Spath
Oyen Lodge Recreation Director

Hello everyone. The rain showers sure are greening things up and it looks great. Also the smell of fresh cut grass along with the spring air flowing through the windows is always so refreshing in the spring. It's that time of year to start hanging laundry on the line for that extra freshness. Thanks to the maintenance men for keeping the grounds looking great for everyone to enjoy.

The Oyen Lodge would like to welcome a new resident, Sonja Salkeld.

Monday morning started with exercises, followed by a one-on-one scrabble game. In the afternoon there was bingo.

Exercises started our Tuesday morning, then the regular bus run downtown for shopping. Some of the residents enjoyed an outside walk before lunch. In the afternoon the residents enjoyed their choice of either a float, sundae or banana split at the ice cream parlor.

Wednesday morning there was church led by Catherine, followed by Phase Ten card game. In the afternoon Delbert Pratt was at the Lodge to entertain the residents with his cowboy poetry. It's always great to listen to some true stories through cowboy poetry.

Thursday morning started with exercises, then we went to Empress for dinner at the Red Fork Café. Thanks to Jordan for his excellent meals he serves, we totally recommend going there.

Exercises started our Friday morning, followed by horse races. #4 horse, Willy, was the big winner that day. In the afternoon the residents enjoyed some bingo, and in the evening there was music by Jorgenson's.

Happy birthday to Joan Mick on May 18th.

Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend, whether it was camping, family bonding or yard work.

"Spring is when life's alive in everything." "May is the month of rebirth and renewal.”

The month of May sure went fast, and we are finally getting some beautiful days to enjoy camping, BBQs, gardening and yard work. We are excited to plant some flowers and garden boxes soon at the Lodge.

Monday was Victoria Day, so there were no activities because of the stat holiday.

Tuesday morning started with exercises and the regular bus run downtown for shopping. Father Rodell led Church at 10:30. In the afternoon was pub hour where refreshments and snacks were served. Before supper, students up to Grade 8 were at the Lodge to play piano for the residents.

Wednesday morning there was Church led by John. "If The Shoe Fits" Company was at the Lodge from 10:00 to 2:00. It's so nice of the ladies to come from Lethbridge so that the residents can purchase shoes without leaving home. In the afternoon there was shuffleboard, followed by piano music by Taylor Neilson.

Exercises started on Thursday morning, followed by a dominoes game. In the afternoon was the monthly birthday bash, in which chocolate cake with creamy vanilla icing and ice cream were served along with coffee and tea.

Friday morning started with exercises, followed by horse races. #4 horse, Willy, won the most races that day. Maximum Hearing was at the Lodge in the family room from 9:00 to 3:00. They will be back on June 5th in the activity room. In the afternoon the residents enjoyed some card bingo, and in the evening there was music by the Jorgensons.

The Oyen Lodge would like to congratulate our work experience girls on their high school graduation. Best of luck to you both in your future endeavours.

Oyen Lodge would like to thank Sharon and Peter Freisen and Madeline Nichols for the wooden barrel planters to display in the courtyard. It's greatly appreciated.

Have a great week everyone.
