Phillip Peters sworn in as Alberta's 12th auditor general
Phillip Peters was officially sworn in as Alberta's 12th auditor general on June 3, 2026, in a ceremony held at the Alberta Legislature.
Speaker Ric McIver welcomed Peters to the role, saying his background, experience and commitment to public service will ensure his success.
Peters joined Alberta's Office of the Auditor General in 2017 as a legislative audit advisor, where he advised audit teams and senior leadership on complex legislative, governance and accountability matters.
In remarks following the ceremony, Peters said he is honoured to serve all elected members of the Legislative Assembly and, through them, the people of Alberta. He said the office will focus where it can have the greatest impact, bringing independent, objective analysis and practical recommendations to strengthen accountability and improve services and programs for Albertans.
The auditor general is a nonpartisan officer of the legislature, responsible for conducting independent audits of every Government of Alberta ministry, department, regulated fund and agency. The office operates under the Auditor General Act.
