Oyen students recognized in Legion Remembrance contest
Students from three local schools were recognized June 16 as the Oyen Legion presented awards for the annual Remembrance Day Poster and Literary Contest.
Kim Walker, vice-president of the Oyen Legion, presented branch and district-level awards to students from Oyen Public School, Assumption Roman Catholic School and Warren Peers School.

At Oyen Public School, branch-level winners included McKenna Tye (first, Primary Colour), Charley Waters (second, Primary Colour), Hayden Tye (first, Junior Colour) and Rayana Murray (third, Junior Black and White). At the district level, McKenna Tye earned second place in Primary Colour, while Hayden Tye captured first place in Junior Colour.
At Assumption Roman Catholic School, branch-level winners were Eva Shadlock (first, Primary Black and White), Joey Mehl (second, Primary Black and White), George McBain (third, Primary Black and White), Emerson Rude (third, Primary Colour) and Blakely Smigelski (first, Junior Black and White). Blakely and Eva were unable to attend the photo presentation.
Warren Peers School winners included Emara Dillabough (first, Primary Poem), Nevaeh Jarvis (second, Primary Poem), James Nicholson (third, Primary Poem), Kalla Lindgren (second, Junior Black and White), Ryan Colbe (second, Junior Colour) and Bennett Skappak (third, Junior Colour). James Nicholson was absent from the photos.
Legion representatives noted that selecting winners is never easy, as students put significant effort, creativity and thought into their submissions each year.
Congratulations were extended to all participants for their outstanding work and commitment to remembering Canada's veterans and those who served.
