Oyen Lodge: Shopping trip to Hanna highlights week at Oyen Lodge

By Dianne Spath
Oyen Lodge Recreation Director

Hello everyone.

I don’t know about you, but to me it seems like we are still in the spring season. I’m hoping for some warmer weather to go camping soon, because after June 21, which is the longest day, the days start to get shorter.

School is almost over, and I would like to thank the two work experience girls who were at the Lodge for all their help this year. The residents and staff wish them the very best in their future endeavours.

The Oyen Lodge would like to welcome Don Bamber. Don lived in the life lease condos and has now moved over to the Lodge side.

Monday morning started with exercises, followed by a one-on-one Scrabble game. In the afternoon there was bingo.

Exercises and the regular bus run downtown started our Tuesday morning. Father Rodell led Catholic Church at 10:30. The residents enjoyed their favourite ice cream treats and socializing at the ice cream parlour in the afternoon. After that, there was a resident council meeting.

Wednesday morning there was church led by Catherine Holland. The residents enjoyed a trip to Hanna, where we had lunch at Tim Horton’s and then did some shopping at the new Dollarama store. Everyone had a great time, even though we had cool, windy weather. Before supper there was piano music by Taylor Neilson. Thanks to Sara and son Nixon for joining us in Hanna.

Thursday morning started with exercises and a one-on-one Scrabble game. In the afternoon there was baking.

Exercise and horse races started our Friday morning. #5 horse Silver won most of the races again. After lunch, the residents enjoyed a musical performance by the Acadia Valley students. They did an awesome job.

In the afternoon there was bingo. Congrats to Nina Dziatkewich and Madeline Nichols, who got a bingo on lucky number I-29, which doubled their money. In the evening there was music by the Jorgensons.

The flowers have been planted at the Lodge. Thanks to everyone who has helped make the Lodge look beautiful.

Father’s Day is just around the corner, so to all the dads, HAPPY FATHER’S DAY.

“You can’t make a cloudy day a sunny day, but you can embrace it and decide it’s going to be a good day after all.”

Have a great week everyone, and we’ll see you at the Lodge!
