Nominations open for 2026 Southeastern Alberta Top 7 Over 70 awards

MEDICINE HAT — Nominations will open March 2 for the 2026 Southeastern Alberta Top 7 Over 70™ Awards, a biennial initiative recognizing individuals over the age of 70 who continue to make significant contributions in their communities.

Jim MacArthur, chair of the Southeast Alberta Top 7 Over 70™ executive committee, said the awards celebrate innovators, community champions, creators and leaders whose accomplishments extend well beyond traditional retirement years.

The program was founded in 2017 by Alberta oil industry pioneer and philanthropist Jim Gray. Originally inspired by Calgary’s Top 7 Over 70™ initiative, the awards highlight new or ongoing achievements by older adults in fields such as science, literature, sports, agriculture, philanthropy and the arts.

Organizers say the initiative aims to challenge age-related stereotypes and recognize those who continue to shape their communities and inspire others later in life.

Nominations will be accepted until June 30 through the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta.

An awards gala is scheduled for Oct. 14 at Medalta in Medicine Hat. Tickets will go on sale March 2.

More information about the nomination process is available through the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta.
