National Adoption Awareness Month recognized

Alberta’s Minister of Children and Family Services, Searle Turton, is encouraging residents to consider adoption as the province marks National Adoption Awareness Month.

“Every child deserves a loving, permanent family,” Turton said. “This month, we recognize families making a life-changing difference and highlight children still waiting for forever homes.”

Alberta offers supports to make adoption more accessible, including an increased tax credit and a $6,000 subsidy to reduce costs through a licensed agency by up to 50 per cent.

Turton, an adoptive parent, said providing a home to a child in need is one of the most meaningful experiences for his family.

To celebrate Adoption Awareness Month, the Alberta Legislature Building will be lit white on Nov. 10, and the Edmonton High Level Bridge will be white on Nov. 13. Information sessions and profiles of children waiting for homes are available in person and online.
