Impaired driving crackdown nets 122 over Victoria Day weekend

EDMONTON – Alberta RCMP removed 122 impaired drivers from provincial roadways during enhanced traffic enforcement over the Victoria Day long weekend, May 15-18, 2026.

The 122 drivers were issued Immediate Roadside Sanctions (IRS) as follows: nine received 24-hour suspensions, 37 received IRS WARNS, 71 received IRS FAILS and five novice or commercial drivers were removed under IRS ZEROS.

Officers also issued 1,204 tickets over the four-day period, including 1,142 for speeding, 36 for seatbelt infractions and 26 for distracted driving.

The weekend saw 25 injury collisions and six fatalities on Alberta roads.

"The Alberta RCMP will continue to have an enhanced presence on provincial roadways every long weekend," said Sgt. Darrin Turnbull of Alberta RCMP Traffic. "Everyone has a role to play. Choices like driving sober, staying focused, and buckling up can save lives."
