Fresh opportunities for Alberta students, teachers to connect with agriculture
Agriculture for Life (Ag for Life) is offering a range of education programs and resources in 2026 aimed at helping Alberta students and teachers explore agriculture and food through hands-on learning experiences.
The initiatives are designed to support classroom learning while building students’ understanding of where food comes from and how agriculture fits into everyday life. Teachers are also provided with tools and professional development opportunities to help integrate agriculture into their lessons.
One of the organization’s core offerings is the Classroom Agriculture Program, which delivers in-class presentations led by agriculture industry volunteers. Aligned with Alberta’s Grade 3, 4 and 5 curriculum, the program introduces students to topics such as crop production, animal care and food systems in Alberta.
Educators can also participate in the Teacher Professional Development Expo, scheduled for May 29–30, 2026. The interactive event focuses on connecting classroom learning with agriculture and food, highlighting career pathways in the industry and showcasing programs and resources available through Lakeland College. Organizers say teachers will leave with practical strategies they can immediately apply in the classroom.
Students in Grades 4 to 6 will have the opportunity to experience agriculture firsthand during Aggie Days, hosted by Ag for Life in partnership with the Lethbridge and District Agricultural Society. The two-day event takes place March 25–26, 2026, at the Lethbridge Trade and Convention Centre and features interactive learning stations focused on food production and agriculture’s role in daily life.
Ag for Life says the combined programs provide year-round opportunities for teachers and students to engage with agriculture in meaningful ways. More information, including a full list of programs and registration details, is available at agricultureforlife.ca.
